Prayer from Isaiah 58
Pastor Darrell Huffman spoke on the topic of fasting and prayer on Wednesday night, September 22. At the end of the message he led the congregation in a prayer from Isaiah 58 and wanted to make it available to everyone.
Isaiah 58 Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I consecrate myself to You, to pray and fast. To seek Your face. To call upon Your name. To stand in the gap. To make up the hedge. To be one that will call upon You to see Your will done in my life, my church, and my nation.
Therefore, this day I believe You that as I fast and pray, You loose the bands of wickedness, You undo the heavy burdens, You let the oppressed go free and You break every yoke.
You anoint us to deal bread to the hungry, to bring the poor and the outcast to Your house. To cover those who are hurting with the love of God and the faith of God.
I thank You, Lord, that You cause my light to break forth as the morning. You cause my health to spring forth speedily. Your righteousness directs my steps and guides my path and Your glory is my rereward.
Lord, I thank You. Today, I call upon You and You answer me. I cry out to You and You say, “Here I am!” Because I’m taking away from me the very yoke, the very thing, that I’ve held onto that’s kept me from following You. I surrender my whole life to You and I receive You purging me and destroying that yoke out of my life. I put away from me the pointing of the finger and a scornful attitude. I submit my attitude to You. I receive an attitude of holiness. An attitude of love. An attitude of compassion. I thank You, Lord, that You are Lord over my attitude, and I put away the speaking of vanity.
I cause my confession to be a confession of faith. I’m going to speak Your Word. I’m going to declare Your truth and I draw out my soul to the hungry, and I reach out with a helping hand to every afflicted soul. I thank You, Lord, You cause my light to rise in obscurity. You make my darkness as the noonday.
Lord, I believe You, that You guide me continually. You satisfy my soul. You take care of me even in drought. You make fat my bones. I shall be like a watered garden. I shall be a spring of water, whose waters fail not and I believe, Lord, that You release righteousness upon our nation. That you bless our nation and You cause us to rise up and build the old waste places. You cause us to rise up and raise the foundations of many generations, and we shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of the paths to dwell in.
Lord, we delight ourselves in You and we thank You, Lord, that You give us the victory and cause us to ride upon high places of the earth. You feed us with the heritage of our father Jacob and You cause us to be blessed and a blessing. This day, Lord, we thank You for turning our captivity and releasing Your blessing and righteousness upon our land. For we claim it now. In Jesus name, Amen.
